Viabilidade da madeira legal da Flona - AP frente à competição da madeira ilegal no Amapá

Abstract

Legal timber originating from the Amapá National Forest (FLONA-AP) represents an important economic and environmental resource for the state, supported by forest management practices that reconcile biodiversity conservation with the generation of local income. The study had the general objective of analyzing the economic viability of this resource, considering the dynamics of the main river-based commercial routes in Amapá. The methodology was based on bibliographic research, presenting analytical and descriptive data obtained from sources selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that production costs are higher, resulting in greater added value in the formal market, especially when certification is involved, an aspect reflected in pricing due to investments in sustainable management, regulated transportation, and environmental compliance. The profit margin, estimated at approximately 22%, although lower than that of the illegal market, tends to increase with the growing environmental appreciation and the rising demand for traceable products. It is concluded that operational, certification, and transportation costs still represent significant obstacles to the competitiveness of legal timber compared to illegal production, which benefits from the absence of oversight and informality.
