A importância da entomologia forense no processo médico-legal

Abstract

Forensic Entomology is an area of science that applies studies on insects and other arthropods in legal investigative procedures. It is used as an auxiliary tool in several segments, such as business, civil and criminal, in the latter, it can contribute to the estimation of the post-mortem interval, the identification of those involved, cause of death and movement of the corpse. Despite studies on Forensic Entomology expanding and evolving over time, it is still very scarce to find materials, works or research on the subject, mainly developed in the state of Amapá. The objective of this work is to evaluate the contribution of Forensic Entomology to the medical-legal process in Amapá. For this purpose, expert reports provided by the Forensic Genetics Laboratory of the Technical-Scientific Police of Amapá - POLITEC-AP, prepared between the years 2006 and 2015 were analyzed. A total of fifteen (15) Forensic Entomological Expert Examination Reports were analyzed. Forensic entomological work, in general, was carried out with the following objectives: Identification of location, Estimation of the Postmortem Interval (PMI) and possibility of abuse. The estimation of MPI in most cases demonstrated reliability and security. As for the identification of the location where the corpse was and the assessment of negligence, the analysis did not allow for a conclusion. Therefore, forensic entomology provides valuable information for the medical-legal process in the state of Amapá, with a recurrent contribution in estimating the post-mortem interval.
