Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze how literature can contribute to the deconstruction of stigmas and prejudices about HIV and dissident gender and sexuality identities. The research, which was qualitative and bibliographic in nature, was based on an interpretive analysis of Lucas Rocha's novel Você tem a vida inteira (2018), seeking to understand how the narrative and discursive elements of the novel highlight the confrontation of prejudice and the promotion of empathy. The methodology adopted was based on authors such as Gil (2002) and Fonseca (2002), who defined bibliographic research as a process of systematization and theoretical reflection, and drew on references from different fields of knowledge, such as Goffman (1988), Foucault (2003), Butler (2004), Louro (2004), and Sontag (1989), to discuss the notions of stigma, sexuality, and social representation. Analysis of the work revealed that Lucas Rocha constructed a sensitive and humanizing narrative in which the characters Ian, Henrique, and Victor face their HIV diagnosis from different but converging perspectives in terms of learning about self-care, love, and acceptance. It was found that the author breaks with the stigmatized view of HIV as a death sentence or moral punishment, presenting it as a possible life condition, permeated by affection, solidarity, and resistance. It was concluded that the novel acts as an important instrument of education and social awareness, articulating art and information in an accessible and empathetic way, contributing to the strengthening of a culture of respect, inclusion, and appreciation of diversity. Thus, the transformative role of literature as a space for voice, visibility, and resistance for historically marginalized subjects was reaffirmed, promoting critical reflection on health, sexuality, and humanity.
