Diagnóstico em prol do direito animal no vale do Jari: instrumento para o gestor público municipal e a sociedade civil organizada

Abstract

This study is a research project developed in an extension initiative focused on environmental education and animal health, one of the formative pillars of the degree in Environmental Management, developed at the Federal Institute of Amapá. It focuses on "Mapping and providing alternatives for cooperative dialogues between organized civil society and public authorities in the municipalities of Laranjal do Jari, Vitória do Jari and Monte Dourado, together with the Federal Institute of Amapá, in support of the rights of domestic animals (dogs and cats) in socio-environmental vulnerability". Methodologically, this is an action-research study, which aims to carry out the first stage, which is a diagnosis aimed at understanding the problem (cause and consequence) and seeking collective solutions for a legal right. It will be collected using an online questionnaire (addressed to IFAP higher education students) and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that in the three territories analyzed there are students at the Institute, for most of the interviewees if the animals are castrated by the public authorities they need help with post-operative medication, however they are responsible for the cost and care of rehabilitation, they believe that the abandonment of animals on the streets is linked to the economic issue, considering that there was an increase in the closure of the Jari Celulose industrial plant, triggering a migration process without the pets of the residence integrating the journey. It was noted that there is an initiative to protect animals, such as the creation of a shelter in 2022 by the government, but there is no policy to ensure that the initiative is built.
