Memórias de um corpo negro: uma análise sobre questões de identidades negras e racismo estrutural em O Avesso da Pele, de Jeferson Tenório

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate, through a literary analysis of the work O Avesso da Pele (2020), by Jeferson Tenório, how Black identity and structural racism are manifested in the narrative, based on the understanding that racism has been embedded in the social fabric since the period of colonization and slavery, sustaining the perpetuation of the marginalization of the Black population in Brazilian society. Thus, the study initially examines Brazilian literature, highlighting the presence of Black people, and subsequently discusses Afro-Brazilian literature, articulating concepts such as race, racism, the myth of racial democracy, the ideology of whitening, and Black identity. Given the complexity of the theme, theoretical contributions from sociological and literary studies that address ethnic-racial relations were employed, such as Almeida (2019), Duarte (2013), Santos (1983), Moura (1988), and Munanga (2004), among others. The research adopts a qualitative approach and has a bibliographic nature. The results indicate that structural racism and its implications constitute central factors that hinder the full construction of Black identity. Furthermore, it is concluded that this process does not occur positively without the development of racial consciousness, grounded in the appreciation of Black culture and history.
