Paisagens reinventadas: um olhar sobre Lisboa

Abstract

Having knowledge of the Teolinda Gersão‟s importance in the lusophone panorama, in the scope of contemporary portuguese novel, the purpose of this research is to examine how the characters perceive subjectively the portuguese landscape on the literary work titled A cidade de Ulisses, published in 2011. Since this novel was published after the Carnation Revolution that took place in Portugal in 1974, we seek to focus on the critical position of the author, associating experience and imagery perspective with the portuguese cultural scene. Considering relevant theoretical reflections to Cultural Humanist Geography, the space, place and landscape concepts will be brought in the light favoring the cultural and existential approach that permeates the relationship architected between subject and his surrounding with regard to the spatial analysis of Lisbon and intimacy of the house. Thereby, it is possible to perceive that the Teolinda Gersão‟s poetic work, watching its literary peculiarities, links the aesthetic concern to a national consciousness sense, as she brings out, through her writings, a country in constant change and understanding of social relations that are structured in this spatial context.
